Corpus Christi, TX: K Space Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of Constructed Realities an exhibition of sculptural works of art by Dallas artists Joshua Goode and Lesli Robertson. Both artists use materials commonly associated with construction, but in very different combinations. Goode will be exhibiting The Haunted Mesa, an installation in which he is “exploring new ways to represent some of the more enigmatic qualities of ancient tombs and mythology in my own tomb building.” Lesli Robertson, in addition to other works, will present a sculptural work created in part by local community members during a workshop, which she conducted in October.
About the artists:

Joshua Goode received his BFA from SMU and his MFA from Boston University and has exhibited his work internationally in solo shows in venues such as the Zendai Museum of Modern Art and Shanghai University in Shanghai, China, in addition to group shows at the Museum of the National Library in Madrid, Spain, National Library of Argentina, Buenos Aires, Argentina and at Loyola University, Rome, Italy. Joshua has also exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at the Boston Center for the Arts, Janet Turner Print Museum in California, in addition to venues in New York, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., Austin, Houston and Dallas and is represented in public and private collections around the world including the Zendai Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai, Penang State Museum in Malaysia, Cabildo de La Palma in Spain, and the Naval Academy Museum in Maryland.
Joshua has been a Visiting Artist or Guest Critic at Shanghai University, University of Massachusetts-Boston, Dartmouth College, Marist College and Savannah College of Art and Design. He was recently awarded the Dozier Travel Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art and is currently the Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas.

LesliRobertson is a fiber artist and lecturer at the University of North Texas. She holds an MFA in Fibers from the University of North Texas and a BFA in Liberal Arts from Auburn University. In her creative process she often combines materials like concrete, silk, and journaling with fibers. Robertson is a recent recipient of The Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund from the Dallas Museum of Art, and was an Institute for the Advancement of the Arts Fellow, both of which supported her travel to Uganda for research. She was most recently Visiting Artist at the Dallas Museum of Art Center for Creative Connections where she developed a Community Partner Response artwork and installation.
In October 2010, the community was invited to participate in the creation of a large artwork with Lesli Robertson. Robertson combined community contributions with her own ideas into a large work of art, which will be included in an exhibition at K Space Contemporary (Jan. 6 – Feb. 24, 2012) and afterwards, permanently displayed at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center.
Funding for this program was provided by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation.
